History

World’s Greatest Cemeteries features true stories, dramatic vignettes, and expert interviews about diverse historical figures. Brief, stylized reenactments present glimpses of the lives of real people, with full costumes, sets and props.

World’s Greatest Cemeteries shines a light on famous, forgotten and never-well-known individuals. This series uniquely shows the breadth and resilience of powerful ideas - even when those ideas are promulgated by people otherwise denied the right to be heard. Below are just some of the important figures the series will profile in Season 1 and Season 2.

So, permit me to introduce you to a Black General in Napoleon’s army. A 19th century woman crusader for the mentally ill. A “voodoo” practitioner in New Orleans. A mixed-race child who is abandoned by her mother at birth, but ultimately becomes France’s most-loved chanteuse. A science fiction author whose work is now adapted in television and movies. A Chinese-American Oscar-winning Cinematographer. A songwriter who writes the lyrics to some of your favorite showtunes. A Native-American poet from Canada. Etc.

My late parents loved history. I grew up in a household where important historical events were discussed as if they were the news of the day. But there was always a bittersweet edge to those conversations…because we knew so many great stories had been left out, covered up or simply forgotten. Mom and Dad, this is for you. - Roberto
